When you’re dining with royalty, couture is the only option—just ask Amal Clooney. Last night at Buckingham Palace, The Prince of Wales hosted a dinner to benefit the Prince’s Trust inviting the human rights lawyer, her husband George, and a host of British screen stars from Chiwetel Ejiofor to Benedict Cumberbatch. Never one to wear standard fare, Clooney unearthed a special piece of vintage for the occasion. Her Grecian gown from Jean-Louis Scherrer’s Spring 2007 Couture collection made an elegant statement. White jersey with a matching cape that flowed behind her, the Stephane Rolland-designed piece struck all the right chords.

The Scherrer label officially folded in 2008, though Clooney’s latest style moment proves its archives are still relevant. Sourced at William Vintage, a London luxury boutique that specializes in rare fashion, the 12-year-old dress felt completely modern. Celebrities have all had fun recently bringing back flashy archival runway pieces, and Clooney’s look showcases vintage at its most timeless.
