Apparently Samuel L. Jackson Has Seen Donald Trump Cheat at Golf 1

Donald Trump’s golf game is apparently a good metaphor for his political career, according to a new book on the subject—and. . .Samuel L. Jackson? The actor was one of a few famous players who weighed in on Trump’s alleged cheating habits in Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump by Rick Reilly, a copy of which was obtained before publication by the New York Post.

We already know that Trump has a tendency to seek comfort on the green when the country is going through some of its most trying times. Among those celebs who love hitting the course and who also claim to have first-hand knowledge of Trump’s tendencies to exaggerate his own skills (and sabotage his competition)? Boxer Oscar de la Hoya and eyeliner-wearing rock star Alice Cooper. But the book reviews an account from Jackson in which he said, of a past game with the president, “we clearly saw him hook a ball into a lake at Trump National and his caddy told him he found it!” There are also some wonkier details about the extremely dubious handicap Trump plays with (the lower the handicap, the better the player) and how Trump uncouthly likes to drive his golf cart on the course.

This isn’t actually the first time notorious golf fanatic and bucket hat aficionado Jackson has discussed Trump’s playing style. (Jackson loves golfing so much that it’s written into his film contracts that producers must allow him to play during filming.) In January of 2016, Jackson gave an interview to United Airlines’s Rhapsody magazine about past run-ins with our current president. “. . .It’s funny—last week or so, I actually got a bill from Trump National Golf Club,” he said. “And I haven’t been there in four or five years, so I had my assistant call. They said it was for membership dues. And I said, ‘I’m not a member,’ and they said, ‘Yeah, you are—you have a member number.’ Apparently he’d made me a member of one of his golf clubs, and I didn’t even know it!”

As for the Trump Golf Club membership, Jackson reiterated, “I’m not payin’ that! But no—I don’t know what The Don’s up to. Interesting character. More P.T. Barnum than politician. I don’t think he believes half the things he says.” And when he was asked who was the better player, he responded, “Oh, I am, for sure. I don’t cheat.”

The comments irked the then presidential candidate enough to prompt him to respond via Twitter, “I don’t know @SamuelLJackson, to best of my knowledge haven’t played golf w/him & think he does too many TV commercials—boring. Not a fan,” to which Jackson had the perfect evergreen reply: “Out of all the things that need to be dealt with presidentially, he’s worried about me saying that he cheats at golf, or that he doesn’t really know me? Is that what the deal is? Wow, that’s awful.”

Scammer seasons continues apace.
