If New York Fashion Week had a breakout star, it was Tomo Koizumi. The Japanese designer’s debut show was among the big events of the month overall, thanks to its star-studded cast and delightful tulle dresses. Hypnotic and larger than life, Koizumi’s creations require a special occasion and last night’s Baile da Vogue event in São Paulo fit the bill. Presenter Sabrina Sato arrived at Hotel Unique in a rainbow number from the collection originally worn by model Lexi Boling. The candy-colored tiers of fabric made for a grand entrance and all but ensured that Sato would be the night’s most discussed attendee.

Sato is known for her dramatic wardrobe in Brazil where her wildly popular variety show, Programa da Sabrina, combines elements of comedy, music, and reality television. She gravitates towards fashion that makes a statement—in her hands, a color-blocked Céline hoodie becomes maternity wear, and she’s been known to rock carnival costumes cut from latex.

Styled by Vogue Brazil’s fashion director, Pedro Sales, who joined her for a few pre-show selfies, Sato looked radiant bedecked with glittering jewels, including Bulgari chandelier earrings and a Tiffany and Co. ring. All the color, sparkle, and unabashed fun gave Koizumi’s gown an unforgettable red carpet moment that is sure to be the first of many.
