Remember that red hot minute when twinning—dressing identically to a partner in crime—was the quickest way to catch the eye of street style photographers? Thankfully, that unimaginative stratagem has largely come and gone, and its next iteration has appeared in Seoul, where the city’s Fall 2019 Fashion Week wrapped up on Sunday.
As it so happens, the head-to-toe matching “couple look,” as it’s locally known, did originate in South Korea—which makes last week’s switch-up one of particular note. Now, “couples” of all stripes, from sisters to best friends, are complementing each other in more subtle ways. It might be a single item, such as a boxy pinstripe blazer or black Yankees tee, shared between friends, or the slight variations in color and cut between three pairs of boyfriend jeans. No matter which way you slice it, it is a fun and less eye-roll-inducingly obvious way to dress up with a mate. That’s always a good thing, where style is concerned.
Here, five ways to give Seoul’s twinning 2.0 a go.
